Ecco la nostra centrale Katerina Zakchaiou. Classe 1998, con il numero 16, al suo primo anno a Chieri, anche Katerina si racconta ‘oltre la rete’.
Quali sono le tue origini, Katerina? Parliamo un po’ della tua famiglia.
Vengo da Cipro e, specifico, dalla città di Limassol! Siamo quattro fratelli, tre femmine e un maschio.
La tua carriera è iniziata presto, anche in Nazionale. Hai sempre desiderato giocare a pallavolo?
Prima di iniziare a giocare a pallavolo ho provato tutti gli sport a dire il vero! Ho fatto nuoto per 11 anni. Poi un’estate sono andata a provare pallavolo ed ero davvero felice fin dai primi allenamenti, così ho deciso di iniziare.
Come ti trovi a Chieri? Che rapporto hai con i tifosi?
Mi piace molto la vita qui, è una città tranquilla con brava gente! C’è anche Torino che è abbastanza vicina ed è bellissima. Amo i nostri tifosi, sono sempre lì per noi e ci supportano. Sono davvero importanti, il settimo giocatore!
Sei in Italia dal 2020 e hai già viaggiato molto per lavoro. Che differenze vedi tra le varie località italiane in cui sei stata?
Posso dire che l’Italia è davvero grande! Sarò sincera, per me è proprio il Belpaese. Ogni posto in cui sono stata qui è bellissimo, la cultura, il cibo… Al nord fa sicuramente più freddo, ma ci sono le montagne che sono così belle!
Sei molto attiva sui social, in particolare su Tik Tok. Quali contenuti ti piace creare?
Nel tempo libero realizzo alcuni video, sì. La maggior parte delle volte ne faccio di divertenti, che sono i miei preferiti.
Hai una sorta di rituale portafortuna prima della partita?
No, non ho qualcosa di specifico. Di solito, però, mi piace ascoltare buona musica.
So che anche tu hai un bellissimo rapporto di amicizia e condivisione con Martha, vero?
Sì, ho un ottimo rapporto con Martha, è divertente e parliamo la stessa lingua, il greco. Per noi questo è importante, soprattutto quando siamo lontane da casa.
Sei divertente e giocosa, un po’ pazza, come hai detto in un video… Com’è avere questo bell’approccio nella vita e in campo?
Non si vive per sempre, quindi per me è importante godermi ogni momento, è fondamentale. In campo e fuori nella mia vita privata mi approccio sempre con questo spirito.

What are your origins? Can you talk about your family?
I am from Cyprus and specific from Limassol city! We are 4 siblings, 3 girls and 1 boy!
Your career started early, even in the national team. Have you always wanted to play volleyball?
Before I start to play volleyball I tried all the sports to be honest! I was doing swimming for 11 years. After I went one summer to try to see if I will like volleyball and for the firsts practices I was really super happy! And I started it.
How do you find yourself in Chieri? What relationship do you have with the fans?
I really like the life here,It’s calm city with good people! There is also Torino that is pretty close and it’s also beautiful. I love our fans,they’re always there for us and they support us.They are really important for us.They are the seventh player!
You have been in Italy since 2020 and have already traveled a lot for work. What differences do you see between the various Italian locations you have been to?
I can say that Italy it’s really big! I will be really honest, for me Italy it’s from the beautiful country’s. So every place that I been here it’s beautiful. They have the own culture and foods. In the north it’s more cold for sure but there is the mountains that they are so nice!
You are very active on social media, particularly on Tik Tok. What content do you like to create?
In my free time I do some videos.The most times I do funny ones that are my favourite ones.
Do you have a sort of ritual lucky charm before match?
No, I don’t have something specific thing.But usually I like to listen to a good music.
I know you also have a beautiful friendship and sharing relationship with Martha, right?
Yes I do have a great relationship with Martha she is funny and we speak the same language and for us this is important when we are far from our houses.
You’re fun and playful, a little crazy, as you said in a video… What is it like to have this nice approach in life and on the pitch?
We don’t leave for ever,so for me it’s important to enjoy every moment of it. Even in the pitch or out in my private life.
